Recent Spam & Phishing Attempts
Stay vigilant against phishing attempts!
Many of us receive spam and phishing email messages sent from compromised email accounts. As the volume of these deceptive emails continues to rise, we urge you to be vigilant. If an email offer sounds ‘too good to be true’, do NOT respond, do not provide any personal information, and do not send any money. If you’re not sure what to do, contact the BC Information Security Team at BC-InfoSec@brooklyn.cuny.edu – we’re here to help.
Always think before you click!
If something seems fishy…it probably is. Here are some tips to keep in mind to avoid falling victim so that we can protect everyone:
- Brooklyn College will never email you requesting that you update or verify your password.
- Official Brooklyn College/CUNY email correspondence will always have official Brooklyn College contact information listed.
- NO official correspondence originates from student email account (@bcmail.cuny.edu).
- Avoid clicking links or downloading files from people you don’t know or weren’t expecting
- Don’t respond to shady emails or messages from an unknown source (job offers)
Even if it seems too obvious to you, report any potential attempts to the Brooklyn College Internet Security Team at bc-infosec@brooklyn.cuny.edu. We encourage you to check this site https://infoblog.brooklyn.edu/spam/ for already identified spam/phishing emails circulating on campus.
Sincerely,
Internet Security Team at Brooklyn College
