Faculty play a critical role in helping students connect their academic experiences to career opportunities. The Career Center has developed the below to discuss how we can help support academic courses.
Ways Magner Can Support
- Play for your class videos of pre-recorded events so they can gain exposure to different career paths:
- Invite our staff to visit your class by emailing careernews@brooklyn.cuny.edu
- Invite an Alumni to Your Class: Alumni can provide valuable advice to your students and inspire them to succeed! We are happy to assist in identifying someone whose background aligns with your course objectives. - Please note requests for speakers should be made at least 3 weeks in advance for us to accommodate.
- Schedule a support session with the Magner Career Center: Faculty and departments interested in incorporating career readiness into their courses may schedule a consultation with our office by contacting Andre Fontenelle, Director of the Magner Career Center, at Afontenelle@brooklyn.cuny.edu.
- Have your students attend one of our events for class attendance.
Key Resources & Information
- Students can meet with a Career Coach in in small groups during walk in hours (Wednesday) or via appointments. This includes resume review and interview prep. For appointments, students schedule through Navigate.
- Students should pay attention to the emails sent and check the following platforms frequently (BC Handshake, Instagram and LinkedIn Group). They should also bookmark our events page.
- Online/self service resources: We have many pages on BC Knowledge that students can access anytime. Students are encouraged to review our online resources on their own to make the most of their time with a career coach. For example:
- Services once students graduate: Access to appointments (Navigate) ends once students graduate therefore, students should take advantage of career services while they are enrolled. In collaboration with the Office of Alumni Engagement we do host group career counseling for alumni. - Employers who contact you that want to recruit can chose among a set of pre-planned dates and activities to streamline our recruiting processes. More information can be found via our website.
