What are the restrictions on paying honorariums?

In terms of CUNY employment – last two years?

Tax levy and non-tax levy funds cannot be used to process honorarium payments to individuals who are currently employed, or have been employed within the past two years, by CUNY, SUNY, and/or New York State.

Are adjuncts considered “employed” by CUNY?

Yes, as they are employed by CUNY.

Is it okay to pay undergraduate students honorariums? Any restrictions for graduate students?

If a student is working for a department, they are considered an employee and should be paid through Payroll. Please contact the Office of Human Resources/Payroll Department for additional information.

What if they teach as an adjunct or are employed part-time by CUNY?

They are employed by CUNY and should be paid through Payroll. Please contact the Office of Human Resource Services/Payroll for additional information.
