Changes to How Employees Access Local College Administrative Applications
What happened?
To improve the security of our local administrative applications, ITS was required to block certain applications from direct access to the Internet. To accomplish this, some applications were moved to private servers, resulting in changes to website addresses and how some of these applications are accessed.
How did access to local college administrative applications change?
Some local college administrative applications are now only accessible on-campus or via a VPN connection. A VPN (virtual private network) is a special network connection that simulates on-campus access from a remote device.
How do I know which applications are restricted to on-campus or VPN access?
Sign in to your Restricted Administrative Applications list to see which of the applications you use are impacted. Some commonly used applications that now require a VPN connection for off-campus access include eAppointments, DWWI, and SEMS/STEMAS. Follow this guide to request VPN access if needed.
How can I find all the latest application links?
Updated links to all local web applications are available in BC Knowledge. Note that old bookmarks and links found on Google may not work for some time, so please use the links in BC Knowledge as your primary source.
Was this related to the transition from BC WebCentral?
No. The older platform used for BC WebCentral was separate from the college’s local web applications. These security changes would have been needed regardless. CUNY security standards required the sunsetting of BC WebCentral.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we continue to improve the security of our local data and systems. If you have any questions, please contact the ITS Helpdesk for assistance.
Sincerely,
Brooklyn College Information Technology Services
