Over the past several years, the Magner Career Center has worked closely with faculty and staff. While the center is a resource for students, partnering with faculty and staff to encourage students to work towards their careers is essential, even for students who have secured internships already. Below you’ll find ways we can support your students in internship courses.
Share Self-Help Resources with Students:
- How to be a standout intern before, during and after your internship
- Advice from Former Interns & Employers through the Magner Career Center Advice Playlist
- If the student’s internship is virtual: how to succeed in a virtual work environment
- Dress for success webpage
- Resume guide which students can use to update their resume as they go through their internship
- Encourage students to speak with professionals at the company they’re interning with by participating in informational interviews
- Remind students that an internship is one long job interview, and they may be asked to interview for a full-time position, so they should brush up on their interview skills
- Share Skill Development Resources
How the Magner Career Center Can Support Your Course:
- Employer Contacts:
- Through partnerships with employers, the Magner Career Center can assist with identifying new internships for the course.
- Paid internships are also available through CUNY’s Office of Careers & Industry Partnerships.
- If your course has synchronous meetings:
- Invite a staff member to speak to your class about job search strategies or other career development topics.
- Have an industry professional speak to your class about the field.
