Citation Managers
Citation managers allow you to save and organize references you gather during research. You can import citations from databases such as Academic Search Complete and JSTOR or manually enter citations. You can attach PDFs and images to the citations as well. Citation managers also generate bibliographies in a wide variety of styles.
- Mendeley: Free research tool that assists at every stage of the research process, from gathering research and annotating PDFs to organizing citations and creating bibliographies. Mendeley serves as three major tools: citation manager, PDF organizer, and social network.
- RefWorks: Online citation management licensed for all CUNY campuses. Generate in-text citations and bibliography in any writing style; organize citations and notes in your private library. Use your CUNY email address to create a free account.
- Zotero: Saves and helps you to organize citations to articles, books, webpages, and more. Works with Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari. Install the Zotero Word plug-in to quickly create bibliographies and add citations to papers.
Citation Generators
Citation generators are tools that can assist you in creating citations for your in-text citations and footnotes or bibliographies at the end of your papers. OneSearch and many Academic Databases and Journals have embedded citation generators.
Another option is to simply enter or import the citation data, choose a citation style, and the tool generates the citation for you.
