How can I get involved in campus sustainability initiatives?

There are many ways to get involved. A great first step is to incorporate green practices into your everyday routine. The fight against plastic waste starts with individual action. Here are some simple ways to reduce your plastic usage right now:

  • Carry a reusable water bottle. Fill up with cold, high-quality NYC tap-water from a campus water-bottle filling station.
  • Use your own coffee mug. Some coffee shops will give you a discount.
  • Keep a reusable bag in your backpack so you always have one handy.
  • Pack your food in a reusable container. Bring your own utensils.
  • At restaurants and stores, refrain from using disposable cutlery and plastic bags.
  • Skip the plastic straw. Opt for metal, silicone, or bamboo.
  • Incorporate these ideas when planning your next event or celebration.
  • Take initiative with family, friends, and co-workers!

In addition, Sustainability hosts a wide range of initiatives, ad-hoc committees, events, and more. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact sustainability@brooklyn.cuny.edu to inquire about our ongoing volunteer opportunities. Likewise, we would love to hear about your ideas!
