E-bikes are increasingly popular as an affordable and eco-friendly alternative to gas-fueled cars. The rechargeable lithium-ion batteries on these devices, however, have been blamed for causing hundreds of fires and over a dozen deaths in the city. To keep everyone safe until more steps are taken to get dangerous batteries off the market, Brooklyn College requires all e-mobility devices be parked outside buildings at designated racks or in parking lots. Those found inside campus buildings will be confiscated.
