How to: Submit a Registrar Exception Request (RER)

Registrar Exception Requests (RERs) are submitted to the Office of the Registrar to process various exceptions for our students. This includes, but is not limited to: course substitutions/in lieu of, indicating departmental honors for graduating students, exemptions based on proficiency, and time conflict overrides.

RERs are not for any requests that must be first reviewed by the Committee on Course and Standing and/or the Committee on Graduate Admissions and Standards.

To submit an RER, follow the steps below.

  • Log into BC WebCentral.
  • Click on E-services on the left hand side menu.
  • Under Restricted Administrative Applications, click on Registrar Exception Requests from the list of applications. Your department’s name should be listed at the end of the link.
  • On the next screen, any pending/past requests will appear. Submit a new request, select Click here to submit a new request.
  • On the next screen, your information will pre-populate. Enter the students CUNYfirst ID number/EMPL ID to locate the student. Additionally, the fields listed below must be completed.
    • Exception Type (drop down menu) – select from the following:
      • In Lieu of Request
      • Time Conflict Override
      • Permission for Second Degree in same Department
      • Permission to retain credit for the same course
      • Curriculum Approval
      • Departmental Honors
      • Approval of Electives
      • Permission to use a 2nd Major in lieu of a concentration
      • Exemption based on proficiency
      • Approval of Undergraduate Recital/Final Exhibition
      • Other (use only if you do not see a relevant category for your request)
    • Message: Enter the pertinent information regarding the request including terms, Brooklyn College course subjects and numbers, major titles, special topic subjects, etc.

Any request missing information will be sent back to the department. Students will receive an alert that the request was sent back to the department and will be directed to the department for more information.

  • Once all information has been entered, click Submit Request.

Once your request is submitted, you will be brought to your home page with a confirmation that your request has been received. The request will now be added to your history/list of requests, as well.

Processing Time
Registration Exception requests are typically processed within 5-7 business days.
Access Requests
Faculty may request access to submit Registrar Exception requests if they do not have access. To do so, please submit the request to studentrecord@brookyn.cuny.edu. Requests must include your full name and EMPL ID number.
