How is OneDrive different from Dropbox?

Need to learn more about OneDrive? See Getting Started with OneDrive.

Both Dropbox and OneDrive are excellent tools for file sharing, collaboration, and backup. The main differences at CUNY are:

  • Getting Started with Dropbox is slightly easier.
  • OneDrive is tightly integrated with Office 365 applications and online tools. You can sign in to your OneDrive account from any of your local Office tools (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint). If you use Teams or any of the office tools online, you’re already using OneDrive.
  • Dropbox folders at CUNY have no fixed storage limits; whereas individual OneDrive folders are limited to 1TB.
  • Dropbox can sync file uploads as big as 2 TB (e.g. large CAD files, 4K video); Files in OneDrive are limited to 250 GB.
