What’s Happening to My Email?
Brooklyn College is part of the final wave of CUNY campuses moving to the Microsoft 365 cloud platform for employee email. This is a mandatory upgrade for all of CUNY. Microsoft 365 (M365) is currently used for student and staff email, Office 365 applications, Teams, and more. Moving to M365 will increase your mailbox size from 2GB to 100GB, while providing many new productivity and collaboration benefits. Learn more about what to expect throughout the upgrade process.

Why is Brooklyn College moving to M365?
In addition to the many benefits of upgrading to M365, it is also mandated by CUNY Central. Brooklyn College is part of the final wave of campuses moving to M365 (including Hunter, John Jay, Medgar Evers, Bronx, Kingsborough, Guttman, Laguardia, Hostos, CUNY Law, BMCC. Macaulay, and City College). Employees and students at Baruch, Lehman, City Tech, and Queens are already using M365 for their email.
When are we moving to Microsoft 365?
ITS is moving accounts throughout the Spring and Summer 2024 semesters.
What are the benefits of moving to M365?
We’re very excited about the benefits of moving to M365, including larger mailboxes (from 2 gigabytes to 100 gigabytes), enhanced cybersecurity, one less password (M365 uses CUNY Login), and integration with new productivity tools like the Microsoft 365 app, FindTime to find meeting times that work for everyone (like Doodle), Bookings to simplify appointment scheduling (like Calendly), Groups to easily create custom distribution groups (for emails, meetings, and sharing files), and To Do. M365 is also tightly integrated with all of the powerful Office 365 applications and Teams.
Will my email address change after the M365 upgrade?
No. You can continue sending and receiving emails at your @brooklyn.cuny.edu email address. Email addresses for departments, entities, and other resource accounts will also be moved to the new M365 system.

What to expect throughout the upgrade process.
ITS is working to ensure that everyone’s upgrade to M365 goes as smoothly as possible. Here is what you can expect to happen throughout the process and how you can prepare your mailbox.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for moving to M365?
Your existing emails and calendars will be migrated automatically and instructions will be shared shortly on how to configure your desktop, mobile devices, and webmail links for M365. You will use your CUNY Login credentials to access your email after the move.
If you have email attachments larger than 30 megabytes in your mailbox, ITS will contact you with instructions on how to save or archive these attachments, as they cannot be migrated automatically. How do I configure my devices to access my new M365 email?

What if I work for the Research Foundation or I’m a visiting employee?
Research Foundation employees will automatically receive M365 email accounts. Other visiting employees will require HR to create a POI record in CUNYfirst. Email accounts can no longer be created for individuals that do not exist in CUNYfirst.
