What multi-factor verification options can I use for my Microsoft 365 account?

CUNY Central recommends installing and using the Microsoft Authenticator app as your primary verification method, but you can choose alternatives such as the Microsoft Outlook mobile app (install), Google Authenticator, SMS/Text message, or voice/phone call during the setup process. You only need to complete the MFA setup process once, and it will be applied to all Microsoft 365 applications on all your devices.

You can add your office phone number with an extension as a verification after your initial MFA setup.

See CUNY’s Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication page for more information.

IMPORTANT: If you enable other voice/text verification options and require access to your college email when traveling outside of the country, ensure that you have access to the phone number used for MFA verification or enable one of authenticator app options, like Microsoft Authenticator.
