About the Microsoft 365 employee email migration

Brooklyn College employee email is moving to the CUNY Microsoft 365 platform (M365) in Summer 2023. M365 is the cloud-based system currently used for student email, Microsoft Office applications, and Teams. Moving to M365 will greatly expand our email capacity and collaboration options.

We’re working hard to make the move to M365 as seamless as possible. Your email address will remain the same (@brooklyn.cuny.edu) and all of your existing emails, calendars, and tasks will be moved to M365. Resource and entity email accounts will also be moved.

Why is Brooklyn College moving to M365?

In addition to the many benefits of moving to M365, this migration is also mandated by CUNY Central. Brooklyn College is part of the final wave of campuses moving to M365 (including Hunter, John Jay, Medgar Evers, Bronx, Kingsborough, Guttman, Laguardia, Hostos, CUNY Law, BMCC. Macaulay, and City College). Employees and students at Baruch, Lehman, City Tech, and Queens are already using M365 for their email.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for moving to M365?

No. Your existing emails, calendars, and tasks will be migrated automatically and instructions will be shared shortly on how to configure your desktop, mobile devices, and webmail links for M365. You will use your CUNY Login credentials to access your email after the move.

To ensure a smooth migration, we are encouraging everyone to review their mailbox for large attachments and clean up or archive these files. You can use the new cloud storage tools available in M365 to store these files after the migration. Learn how to find large email attachments. The IT helpdesk will contact you and offer assistance if your mailbox is too large for a smooth automated migration.

What are the benefits of moving to M365?

We’re very excited about the benefits of moving to M365, including larger mailboxes (from 2 gigabytes to 100 gigabytes), enhanced cybersecurity, one less password (M365 uses CUNY Login), and integration with new productivity tools like the Microsoft 365 app, FindTime to find meeting times that work for everyone (like Doodle), Bookings to simplify appointment scheduling (like Calendly), Groups to easily create custom distribution groups for emails, meetings, and sharing files, and To Do. M365 is also tightly integrated with all of the powerful Office 365 applications and Teams.
